Prof. Elías Muñoz Merino

ISOM's Honorific President/Former Director/Emeritus Professor/Founder member

Prof. Muñoz Merino is a highly awarded researcher, member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineers (Real Academia de Ingenieros) since 1994, Honorific President of ISOM since 2018, and Emeritus Professor at UPM since 2014. He was a Fulbright student at Stanford Univ. during 1967-1970 under the supervision of Prof. John Moll, and obtained the PhD on Telecommunication Eng. at UPM on 1970. He is a founder member of ISOM and also of the Dept. Electronics Eng. at ETSI Telecommunications.

Founder member

Professor of Physics and founding member of the GDM. He was one of the most appreciated professors by ETSIT students and had the gift of bringing Physics closer to anyone. He was Deputy Director of the ISOM and the first Coordinator of the CT-ISOM. He had a fruitful research career focused on the engineering of magnetism, but with important contributions also in elemental magnetism.

Prof. Enrique Calleja Pardo

Doctor in Physics (UAM, 1980) and Full Professor of Electronic Engineering at ETSI Telecomunicación-UPM (1990-2022). Director of ISOM-UPM (2008-2016) and head of the III-Nitrides MBE research team (1995-2022). Co-author of more than 330 publications and more than 290 presentations in international conferences. Research interests included nitride-based nanostructures and devices.

Professor of Physics and founding member of the GDM. Known for his inventiveness, he is one of those scientists who knows everything. His career focused on the applications of magnetism to industrial, transportation, security, and military applications. He was Director of ISOM (2016-2019) and one of the few researchers who in the institute, if not the only one, who has understood how every last screw in the clean room worked.

Prof. Adrian Hierro Cano obtained his PhD at Ohio State Univ. under the supervision of Prof. Steven Ringel in 2001, joining ISOM as a Ramon y Cajal Researcher in 2002. He has been the youngest Director of ISOM, from 2019 to 2021, and is the founder of the Semiconductor Photonics and Optoelectronics Team (SPOT).
