Highly fabrication tolerant polarization beam splitters

Resumen:

Due to the increasing internet traffic, there is a need for upgrading current optical networks. One of the research lines to meet this demand is by implementing phase modulation formats that increases the number of bits per symbol in the optical link, E.g. the Dual-Polarization Quadrature-Phase Shift Keying (DP-QPSK). A vital component of the coherent scheme is the polarization beam splitter (PBS). In this talk, I will present a novel polarization beam splitter on an InP platform. This PBS solves the stringent fabrication tolerances of previous developments which is the main issue in such components.
